Education Project

2007-2008

Welcome to the Stockmen's Memorial Foundation's Education Page, here you will find lesson plans and activities that make use of the archival resources and materials of the Bert Shepperd Library and Archives located in Cochrane, Alberta. These lessons meet several of the outcomes in the Alberta Program of Studies and provide teachers with the opportunitiy of bringing the past into the classroom and having students reflect on the history of their own community. The objectives of the Stockmen's Memorial Foundation are:

  • to identify and remember the builders of the livestock industry and others who have made outstanding contributions to its progress
  • to provide historical and business information relating to the livestock industry
  • to familiarize the public with the lore of the cattle industry
  • to encourage a general appreciation of the sociological and economic significance of the livestock industry.

These lessons and activities, along with the resources supplied on the Multimedia CD address these objectives along with the Alberta Program of Studies, primarily the Grade 4 and 5 Social Studies Curriclum. These lessons and activities are simply suggestions, teachers are encouraged to use our resources in as many ways as possible. Teachers are also encouraged to contact the Stockmen's Memorial Foundation if they are looking for something in particular, we will be happy to try and accomodate you and your request.
